MEA, also known as 2-aminoethanol, is a colorless liquid with a slight ammonia-like odor. It is also used as a neutralizing agent and pH adjuster in water treatment and as a corrosion inhibitor in oil and gas production.

It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor and lubricant additive in the oil and gas industry.

TEA, also known as 2,2',2''-nitrilotriethanol, is a viscous, colorless liquid with a slight ammonia-like odor. It is used as a neutralizing agent and pH adjuster in cosmetics, cleaning products, and personal care products. It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor and lubricant additive in the oil and gas industry.

All three ethanolamines are produced by reacting ethylene oxide with ammonia. The difference in their chemical structure depends on the ratio of ethylene oxide to ammonia used in the reaction.

Ethanolamines have been classified as having low toxicity, but they can cause skin and eye irritation. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of MEA, DEA, and TEA can cause respiratory irritation and central nervous system depression.
