What is Mechanism behind Guar Gum? Possibly Effective for and side effects of Guar gum?
Constipation, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are all treated with guar gum. There isn't much scientific evidence to back up the usage of guar gum for other ailments.
According to the "Coherent Market Insights" Global
Industry Insights, Trends, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis of Guar
Gum Market.
What is the mechanism behind it?
Guar gum is
a fibre that helps to regulate the moisture content of the stool by absorbing
excess liquid in diarrhoea and softening it in constipation. It may also aid in
the reduction of cholesterol and glucose absorption in the stomach and
intestines.
Because guar
gum expands in the colon, it causes a feeling of fullness, there is some
interest in utilising it for weight loss. This could make you feel hungrier.
Possibly Effective for
Constipation.
Constipation appears to be relieved by taking guar gum by mouth in some adults
and children.
Diarrhea.
Guar gum added to tube feeding formula for critical care patients may help to
reduce diarrhoea bouts. Guar gum also appears to reduce the length of diarrhoea
episodes in children who have recently developed or persistent diarrhoea. Guar
gum does not appear to help adults with cholera diarrhoea.
Cholesterol
levels are high. Guar gum appears to help patients with high cholesterol lower
their cholesterol levels. Guar gum and pectin, when combined with insoluble
fibre, lower total and "bad" low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
cholesterol, but not "good" high-density lipoprotein (HDL)
cholesterol or other blood fats known as triglycerides.
Guar gum, on
the other hand, appears to have fewer effects than psyllium husk.
A long-term
large intestine condition that produces stomach pain (irritable bowel syndrome
or IBS). In persons with IBS, using guar gum by mouth may help to relieve stomach
pain, improve bowel function, and enhance quality of life.
Side Effects
When given
orally, When taken by mouth with at least 8 ounces of liquid, guar gum is
LIKELY SAFE for most people. The water is vital because it minimises the risk
of choking or bowel blockage.
Increased
gas production, diarrhoea, and loose stools are some of the side effects. After
a few days of use, these side effects normally fade or disappear. The
oesophagus and intestines can become blocked if you take too much guar gum or
don't drink enough water while taking it.
